Etim Daniel Uko, a Professor of Geophysics, holds B. Sc. (1980) degree in Physics from the University of Calabar, M.Sc. (1989) degree in Physics/Geophysics from the University of Port Harcourt and Ph.D. (1997) degree in Applied Geophysics from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. Prof. Etim Uko is a member of several academic societies such as American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE), Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP), Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (NISP), Nigerian University Physics Writers Series Creation (NIPWSC), Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Uko had a calling to be a teacher having taught in the Primary, Secondary, and Sunday Schools, and Teachers Training College. He has worked in oil-exploration companies such as Seismograph Service, Petty-Ray Geophysical, Geosource, and Schlumberger Geco-Prakla, between 1981 and 1994, in various capacities as Field Seismologist, Seismologist and Health, Safety, Environment and Security (HSES) Manager. He was a Consultant to Chinese National Petroleum Corporation/Bureau Geophysical Prospecting (CNPC/BGP) in 1998-2000. He was on Sabbatical appointment in 2009-2010, where he served Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of Nigeria as Geophysics advisor. Prof. Etim Uko is an editorial member and a peer reviewer in several academic Journals across the world. He left lucrative Oil-company job offers to earn a PhD degree to qualify to lecture in the University, and has put in over 25 years of competent teaching, research and community service in the Department of Physics, Rivers State University, Nigeria. He had been acting HOD in 2005-2008, and served in various Boards and Committees, External Examination, Professorial Assessment, and Visiting Professorship in the universities and in the global community. Etim Uko is well known to scientific readers, having published over 126 academic Papers in Scholarly Journals, 4 books, 18 monographs to date, and he is very visible in the Research Gate, Google Scholar, Academia and other academic platforms. His research interests are in exploration and petroleum geophysics, geothermics, seismic time-lapse, time-shift and reservoir geomechanics. Those who have worked with Prof. Etim Uko know of his tireless and dedicated efforts in teaching, technical writing and supervision. He has supervised over 84 Undergraduate Projects, over 45 MSc Dissertations and over 14 PhD Theses, and is still supervising several Dissertations and Theses. Prof. Uko loves reading, music, dancing, and travelling. Four of his students are known, are now in Professorial Cadres at the time of this writing. He is married with 5 children, 2 boys and 3 girls.
