Heat flow in the United States
New measurements of heat flow are reported for one hundred thirty-eight sites in the United States. The tabulation includes mean gradients, mean resistivities, and uncorrected and topographically corrected heat flow. Methods and calibrations are briefly described. In several areas, station density is adequte for preliminary contouring and for correlation with basement geology and radioactivity.

Terrestrial Heat Flow in India
Summary A program of terrestrial heat flow measurements in different parts of India was begun in 1963. As a first step, calibrated thermistor thermometers are being used to measure geothermal gradients up to the maximum depths available in mines, oil wells, and bore holes. Tentative values of heat flow have been obtained in four areas of the Precambrian shield and in the Gondwana coal deposits of Godavari valley. Geothermal gradients have been measured in the Tertiary basins of Assam and of Gujarat. In the Kolar gold fields in Mysore state and in the Agnigundala copper belt of Andhra Pradesh, heat …
Statistical Analysis of terrestrial Heat Flow and Seismicity of the Pacific Ocean
The history and evolution of the Red Sea are considered in the light of the continental movement of Africa and Arabia. The relevant palaeomagnetic data pertaining to the latter are summarized. The Red Sea developed in phases, and it is likely that these correspond in time to phases of continental drift. The geophysical data for the Red Sea are summarized in a general résumé and in more detail by considering the Red Sea in three parts, viz. the northern Red Sea (north of 25°N), the central Red Sea (17° to 25°N) and southern Red Sea (south of 17°N). Structural differences …
Heat flow in the upper Silesian coal basin
The paper presents results of heat flow measurements made in 6 deep bores in the Czechoslovakian part of the Upper Silesian coal basin. The heat flow measured was in the range from 1.74 to 1.87 μcal/cm2s. The undisturbed period before the temperature measurement in the bore is discussed and results of repeated temperature measurements carried out 0.1, 1,5 and 36 days after cessation of drilling in one of the bores NP-522, are also given. Although the temperature in the bore still differs considerably from equilibrium, it is possible to determine the temperature gradient with an accuracy better than 5% as …

Terrestrial heat flow in the Alpine-Carpathian foredeep in South Moravia
The heat flow was determined in four deep boreholes drilled while making the basic geological investigations of the basement of the Carpathian foredeep and Flysch zone in South Moravia. The coordinates and the depth of the boreholes together with the value of the heat flow determined are given in Table 1. For this purpose the results of temperature measurements provided by the Czechoslovak Oil Mines, Hodonin, were elaborated; the course of the temperature gradient in the boreholes and the average temperature gradient for the individual lithostratigraphic units were determined (Figure 1). The measuring element used was a temperature-dependent resistor (a …

Heat flow, Hawaiian area
Fifty-three measurements of the outward flow of heat through the ocean floor have been made around the Hawaiian Islands. The heat flow values ranged from a low of 0.71 to a high of 1.9 ?cal/cm2/sec. The mean value for all the measurements (this includes ten previous measurements) north and east of the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii is 1.38 ?cal/cm²/sec. A statistical analysis on these values indicates that the mean outward flow of heat through the area southeast of Hawaii, 1.60 ?cal/cm²/sec, is significantly greater than the mean flow, 1.30 ?cal/cm²/sec, through the Hawaiian arch. The similarity of all …
