Terrestrial heat flow in western South America
Twenty heat-flow measurements were made in western South America (nine in Chile, one in Argentine, five in Peru, one in Ecuador, and five in Bolivia), using available holes. From the values obtained, combined with several others published previously, it may be concluded that the heat flow in this subduction plate boundary area resembles that of other trench-arc systems, with low heat flow prevailing closer to the trench and high heat flow prevailing on the volcanic arc. Due to the limited distribution of sites, the regional heat flow in the area landward of the volcanic zone cannot be assessed with confidence, …
The distribution of heat flow values in Tangshan and its surroundings
In this paper 14 heat flow values obtained on geotherm and geotemperature measurements in Tangshan and its surroundings are described. They are in range from 1.11 to 2.53 HFU. The geothermal gradients are less than 2℃/100m for Tangshan and its surroundings, about 3.3℃/100m for Dagang, Tanggu and Bogezhuang, about 3.5℃/100m for Tianjin.Geothermal characteristics are closely related with the geotectonic features. To our knowledge, the heat flow values vary from 1.1 to 1.31 HFU for the Yanshan upris-ing area, they are 1.66-1.90 HFU for some fault zones and anticlinal axis. For the study region the geothermal gradient is less than 2℃/100m …
Permafrost, heat flow, and the geothermal regime at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska
Development of a new system for shallow sea heat flow measurement and its test application in the Gulf of Thailand
A new technique has been developed for the heat flow measurement in shallow seas. The temperature in the sediment is measured at every 10 cm to the depth of 5 m, by only one thermistor which moves up and down in the probe. From the temperature data thus obtained, the geothermal gradient is calculated, in the least-square sense, by solving the thermal diffusion equation. That is, assuming an annual sinusoidal temperature variation at the sea bottom, of which amplitude and initial phase are parameterized. This system was used in the Gulf of Thailand and detailed temperature distributions were obtained. In …

Geothermal flow and phenomena in two Swedish localities north of the Arctic circle
Temperature measurements in eight holes reaching vertical depths between 287 and 1100m below ground surface in the Malmberget area (lat. 67° 10′ N, long. 20° 40′ E Gr.) and the Kiruna area (lat. 67° 52′ N, long. 20° 9′ E Gr.) in the Swedish Precambrian are reported. The mean equilibrium heat flow in this part of the Swedish shield after climatic correction is 52.6 ± 1.7mWm-2. The mean uncorrected heat flow is 46.6 mWm-2. Comparison with other shield areas shows that in common with the S. African and Indian shields, the north Swedish shield has a greater heat flow than …
