Characteristics of Geothermal Field and Estimation of Heat Flow in Wudang District of Guiyang
Heat-flow and subsurface temperature history at the site of Saraya (eastern Senegal)
New temperature measurements from eight boreholes in the West African Craton (WAC) reveal superficial perturbations down to 100 m below the alteration zone. These perturbations are both related to a recent increase in the surface air temperature (SAT) and to the site effects caused by fluid circulations and/or the lower conduction in the alterites. The ground surface temperature (GST), inverted from the boreholes temperatures, increased slowly in the past (similar to 0.4 degrees C from 1700 to 1940) and then, more importantly, in recent years (similar to 1.5 degrees C from 1940 to 2010). This recent trend is consistent with …

Thermal properties of sediments in southern Israel: a comprehensive data set for heat flow and geothermal energy studies
To decipher the thermal structure of the sedimentary veneer in southern Israel, new values of thermal conductivity and porosity as well as of the radiogenic heat budget are provided. Thermal conductivity is measured for lithotypes and scaled up for geological formations. The new data are higher than most of the previously measured values, in particular for sandstones and siltstones, whose mean values are 5.0 and 2.9 similar to W similar to m-1 similar to K-1. Mean values of the most abundant lithotypes, which are dolomites and limestones, are on the order of 4.1 and 2.7 similar to W similar to …
Subsurface temperature of the onshore Netherlands: new temperature dataset and modelling
Subsurface temperature is a key parameter for geothermal energy prospection in sedimentary basins. Here, we present the results of a 3D temperature modelling using a thermal-tectonic forward modelling method, calibrated with subsurface temperature measurements in the Netherlands. The first step involves the generation of a coherent dataset of temperature values for the calibration of the model. In the Netherlands, most of the available measurements (98.8%) are BHT measurements and therefore need to be corrected from the thermal perturbation created during drilling. The remaining 1.2% is composed of DST measurements, which closely resemble the formation temperature (i.e., ±5 °C). The resulting …

Temperature Profiles for the Continental and Oceanic Crust
Summary Fluctuating geothermal parameters such as heat flow, heat generation, and coefficient of the thermal conductivity are considered in wide ranges. Probable temperatures in the earth's crust for a number of cases and an interpretation of the geothermal gradient from recent laboratory data are given. The examples of reduction of seismic and thermal ambiguity are discussed.

Towards a de-carbonized energy system in north-eastern Morocco: Prospective geothermal resource
Geothermal data has been indicating promising potentialities in the north-eastern Morocco. This paper presents new temperature data, recently recorded in water boreholes located in the Berkane and Oujda areas. Generally, the observed temperature gradients are rather high. One hole near Berkane, revealed an average geothermal gradient of more than 110 degrees C/km at depths greater than 300 in. This result confirms the geothermal gradient estimated in a mining borehole located about 30 km west of the Berkane borehole, in which water temperature of 96 degrees C is reached at a depth of about 700 m. Such a high geothermal gradient, …
Heat and fluid transport in the vicinity of the Corsair Growth Fault Zone, Texas Continental Shelf, Gulf of Mexico
In the Texas continental shelf off Mustang Island, geothermal gradients in the vicinity of the Corsair growth fault zone are elevated (0.05 - 0.06 K/m) relative to those off the fault zone (0.02 – 0.03 K/m). It has been previously suggested that the Corsair faults might serve as conduits for hot fluids recently expelled from overpressured Mesozoic sediments. The present study examines potential mechanisms that cause the high geothermal gradients in the vicinity of the Corsair growth fault. To achieve this objective, I generate one- and two-dimensional basin models of heat and fluid transport through the sediments. A basin model …
Geothermal investigations in the Upper Vindhyan sedimentary rocks of Shivpuri area, central India
Heat flow has been determined by combining temperature measurements in 7 boreholes with thermal conductivity measurements in the Upper Vindhyan sedimentary rocks of Shivpuri area, central India. The boreholes are distributed at 5 sites within an area of 15 x 10 km(2); their depths range from 174 to 268 m. Geothermal gradients estimated from borehole temperature profiles vary from 8.0-12.7 mK m(-1) in the sandstone-rich formations to 25.5-27.5 mK m(-1) in the shale-rich formations, consistent with the contrast in thermal conductivities of the two rock types. Heat flow in the area ranges between 45 and 61 mW m(-2), with a …
