Literature Review

The Global Heat Flow Database (GHFDB) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of data quality. To achieve this, we have implemented a rigorous literature review process that ensures all datasets are thoroughly vetted before being made publicly available. Geothermal study on the continent shelf of the East China Sea

WeiLing Xu, Rongehang Jiao, Junying Le, Deyu Zhou

Heat flow densities of eight boleholes were measured and reported here, ranging from 56-88.6mW /m2. It is important to have these data for studying the geothermal constitution within the East China Sea and the geoprofile which is about 850 km long from Dajushan island in the west to Philippine sea in the east. We have also done the geothermal modelling of this geoprofile by finite element method. The Curie with temperature of 560℃ and the low boundny of lithosphere with temperature of 1300℃ , from the west to the east of this geoprofile, are 25─18─20km and 70─51─63km in depth, respectively. It also shows …

Geothermal Regime and Thermal History of the Llanos Basin, Colombia1

Stefan Bachu, J. C. Ramon, M. E. Villegas, J. R. Underschultz

The Llanos basin is a siliciclastic foreland sub-Andean sedimentary basin located in Colombia between the Cordillera Oriental and the Guyana Precambrian shield. Data on bottom-hole temperature, lithology, porosity, and vitrinite reflectance from all 318 wells drilled in the central and southern parts of the basin were used to analyze its geothermal regime and thermal history.Average geothermal gradients in the Llanos basin decrease generally with depth and westward toward the fold and thrust belt. The geothermal regime is controlled by a moderate, generally westward-decreasing basement heat flow, by depositional and compaction factors, and, in places, by advection by formation waters. Compaction …

Heat-flow distribution in Southeast Asia with consideration of volcanic heat

Toshiyasu Nagao, Seiya Uyeda

As of 1995, in Southeast Asia, from 15°S to 25°N and from 90 to 160°E, 2539 heat flow measurements are available. Despite a recent increase in the number of measurements, still important data gaps exist in the region, especially around the volcanic regions. So far the contribution of heat flux from active volcanoes has largely been overlooked in regional heat-flow maps because of uncertainties surrounding it. We have tried to estimate the volcanic heat in this region with the assumption that these volcanoes emit a similar amount of heat as those in northeast Honshu, Japan, where heat-flow studies and seismic …
